BALANCE

使い方

Equilibrium, respect and longevity, three parts that complete our vision for tomorrow, with each Hinoki object you’ll find the embodiment of those tenets, a pledge for the future.

MATERIALS

We search the world to make sure every material used in a Hinoki knife sustains and enriches our mission for balance.

On Hinoki knives, you’ll find wood sourced from ethically responsible sawmills and steels where the offcuts are recycled to create new steel bars for future production.

REGENERATION

再生
Wood

We source only new hardwoods from ethically responsible sawmills — never recycled wood and never from mills who do not have sustainable forestry at their core.

The timbers we use can take years to grow to maturity, out of respect for their lifecycle we believe it’s our responsibility to create products that last well into the future.

REUSE

再利用
Steel

Any excess steel collected during production of our knives is returned to our steel supplier for re-use.

Our steel provider collects any excess steel produced during the hardening, grinding and polishing process. From its place as scrap material mixed with grinding oils, they filter it through water and then a high-pressure air-vacuum.

The remaining steel is then pressed and roasted into new steel bars that can be used again in future production.

ZERO IMPACT

肯定的な影響
Leather

The processes used in our leather tanneries work toward leather that has zero impact - they have worked on innovative solutions to maintain the integrity of their product while committing to a zero-impact future.
Through improvements to their unhairing, tanning and finishing phases, they have been able to lower their CO2 emissions by 5% while participating in a reforestation program to offset their emissions further.

RECYCLE

Packaging

We only source material for packaging from the most reputable suppliers. Any paper used in our signature boxes or printed matter is certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (PSC).

This means that they are made with, or contain, pulp that comes from FSC well-managed forests, and follows a certified chain of custody that tracks the timber through every stage in the supply chain from the forest to the final user.

ETERNAL GUARANTEE

永久保証

All Hinoki Knives come with a commitment to a lifetime of service. If at any time you are not satisfied with the performance of your Hinoki blade, we’ll make it right. Whether you have made the initial purchase or received your Hinoki knife as a gift, we commit our knives to a lifetime of performance.

With this sentiment, The Hinoki Eternal Guarantee is yours to define, satisfaction with your product being yours and yours alone. If in ten years you have decided that your Hinoki is no longer serving you – if the edge has become dull from use or the handle worn, reach out to us and we will make it right.

RITUAL & TRADITION

儀式と伝統

An embrace of the past, Hinoki Knives are steeped in a history tied to craftsmanship.

The reverence we have for the bladesmithing of our knives is reflected in the knives themselves. They are, in part, a manifestation of our desire to help keep the art of Japanese blade craft alive.

Each Hinoki Knife is a pledge to that desire. A small token that travels from a corner of Japan to far-flung corners of the world. The culmination of centuries of tradition, now in the hands of someone who will pass it to the next generation.
