Inspired by Wa handle silhouettes, Essential handles blend modern ergonomics with traditional Japanese wood carving, bringing a lighter weight and a blade-forward balance disposition.
In your choice of either sustainably harvested Ebony or tactile American Walnut farmed from regenerative forests in Missouri, both luxuriously polished and finished. A handle that allows for dexterity without compromising comfort.
Like the Katana of centuries before, each E1 Essential Bread Knife has been clad in the traditional Warikomi style. Achieved through wrapping a hardened steel core in soft iron, for Warikomi blades are prized for their unbreakable nature. On the Essentials, we’ve replaced the soft iron core with VG-10 Steel, making three layers of VG-10 steel. Unlike one solid steel piece, this is both more durable and malleable, allowing for each serration to be precisely tuned.
As is the long-held superstition, giving a knife severs ties. To prevent the accidental end of your relationships, we have included a small envelope inside each handmade Hinoki box. Before gifting the knife, we encourage you to place a coin inside. Upon receiving the knife the recipient may then offer the envelope back to you as a token form of payment. This small act will ensure that all cutting remains solely in the kitchen.
